About

Who We Are

Adulting for Teens is an Austin-based company that offers enrichment courses for teens, both in-person and online. We also provide consulting services for individuals and organizations, as well as individual coaching for teens and parents. Our mission is to provide evidence-based, scientifically rigorous education and consulting to teens, parents, and organizations.

I'm Dr. Michelann Quimby, and I started Adulting for Teens after fifteen years of teaching in higher education and occasionally working with high school kids. Since I started teaching, I've taught some version of what I jokingly called an "adulting" class, in departments as diverse as Communications and Leadership, Human Development, and Computer Science. Those classes almost always had an applied ethics, career development, well-being, and communications focus. I've also given numerous talks to community groups, student organizations, faculty, and staff on ethics, disability, and trauma-informed practices. My work in online trauma-informed pedagogy garnered an award from the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin and a chapter in a book on trauma-informed teaching during COVID.

Faculty

Founder Dr. Michelan Quimby is an award-winning college professor and published writer, and big fan of teenagers and young people. She holds a PhD and a Master's in Human Development, a Master's of Science in Organizational Leadership and Ethics, and a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Music. Her first career in opera gives her the chutzpah to talk about just about anything in front of teenagers and the humility to listen when she gets it wrong. She believes that teachers should be lifelong learners and relishes the opportunity to learn new things from her students every year. An Austinite since 1996, Michelann enjoys the local foodie scene, art festivals, cozy video games, her dogs, and hanging out with her husband and teenager.
